More or less every country in the world has international students. The amount however, varies widely from country to country. Over the past decade, the number of international students in European countries has been rising.

The share of international students is the highest in western and central Europe, where roughly 10 to 15 percent of tertiary students are from abroad. There are four countries where the share of international students in is much higher than other European countries: Austria (18.0%), Switzerland (18.1%), the United Kingdom (20.1%) and Luxembourg (48.4%).
