Recently, we looked at the life expectancy in Africa, Asia and Europe at the regional level. This time, we’re going to look at the life expectancy in North America in more detail.

We can see that there are some clear differences between countries in North America. Canada has by far the highest life expectancy in North America. In most Canadian provinces and territories it’s over 78 or even over 81. The same goes for some Caribbean islands like Martinique, Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico and Antigua & Barbuda. Most US states also score pretty good. The deep south and states in the Appalachian score relatively low.

Nunavut, in Canada, also stands out from other areas in the region. It has a life expectancy of 70.7. Almost 10 years lower than most places in Canada.

Haiti has by far the lowest life expectancy of any country in North America, with a life expectancy ranging from 61 to 67.
