Garth Brooks Will Tour Next Year

Country star promises his first road trip in over a decade

Garth Brooks is ready to get back on the road again, he told ABC’s Good Morning America. Brooks hasn’t toured in more than a decade, choosing instead to raise a family with his wife Trisha Yearwood. But now that his three daughters are grown up, Brooks said, “It sure feels good to get to throw your hat back in the ring.”

Brooks announced a hiatus from music in 2001 after an impressive eight-album run. He hasn’t toured since, though he has played a handful of benefits and single-city runs, including a residency at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas that began in 2009.

“Our baby’s a senior in high school, and we talked about it and all my babies are fine with it, and Mrs. Yearwood is fine with it,” Brooks said of his return. “So now I get to do what I love to do, which is play music, I get to be with the person I want to be with, which is Mrs. Yearwood. And my children are off on their their own, so the guilt of not being there . . . I’m a phone-call dad now.” To boot, the singer became a grandpa this July when his second daughter, August Brooks, gave birth to a baby daughter, Karalynn.

There are no details yet on when Brooks’ comeback tour will start, though he told Good Morning America he would be playing with a full band, unlike his one-man show in Vegas.

Brooks just released a new box set, Blame It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences, in which the singer traces his own musical history with covers of everyone from Hank Williams and Merle Haggard to the EaglesSimon and Garfunkel and Otis Redding.
