One of the most lucrative photo radars in Quebec is set to be removed.

Transport Minister Robert Poeti said the photo radar on Highway 15 south near the Atwater St. exit is doing nothing to prevent crashes at that site during the day.

Most of the speeding tickets are issued at night.

Last year, that radar was responsible for 14,200 tickets and generated $3 million in revenue.

“I didn’t want the citizens to receive so many tickets. That’s not the idea of it. They idea of it is to make you slow down, that’s it. If you slow down you won’t have any fines. The point is, we didn’t put that there to make money; we put that there to save lives,” said Poeti.
