High school’s American flag replaced with ISIS flag day after Florida shooting

ST. GEORGE, Utah — On the morning after a mass shooting at a Florida high school, one Southern Utah school was vandalized with ISIS messages. 

According to the Hurricane City Police Department, a suspect reportedly replaced the American flag that was displayed outside of Hurricane High School with an ISIS flag. 

One of the school's walls on the east side was also spray painted with graffiti that read: "ISIS is comi--."

HCPD Officer Ken Thompson said investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the school's security cameras as well as footage from surrounding businesses. 

Thompson said it's unclear how many individuals were involved with the crime, which happened at around 3 a.m.

HHS has a designated school resource officer who is standing by on campus to "ensure students' safety, as always," according to the HCPD's statement. Thompson added that there's a "beefed-up" law enforcement presence at the school. 

"We have school resource officers at all of our schools, and that's no different today," he said Thursday. "We have additional investigators who are looking into this."

As of Thursday morning, HCPD was the only agency investigating the case.

HCPD is urging anyone with information regarding the incident or suspicion of who may have been involved to reach out to its dispatch center at 435-627-4999.
