- La région de Tuna al-Gabal est décidemment une mine d'or pour archéologistes. Une nouvelle nécropole y a été découverte lors de fouilles entreprises fin 2017 et dévoilée samedi par l'Égypte, dans cette zone à 200 kilomètres au sud du Caire, connue pour ses tombes et catacombes. L'année dernière, 17 momies avaient été découvertes dans cette même province au centre du pays.
- Le nouveau vaste cimetière antique contient de nombreuses reliques, 40 sarcophages, et notamment les restes momifiés d'un grand prêtre du dieu Thoth.
Egypt announces discovery of ancient necropolis in Minya
La zone proche de cette découverte, dite Tuna al-Gabal, est d'ailleurs connue des archéologues pour ses nombreuses catacombes. Il y a moins d'un an, en mai 2017, dix-sept momies avaient été retrouvées dans de tels tombeaux.

Ancient cemetery unearthed in Minya, Egypt
Dans la chambre funéraire, quatre vases canopes taillés dans l'albâtre recouverts de hiéroglyphes, aux têtes figurant les quatres fils du dieu Horus, divinités funéraires. Ils servaient à contenir les organes du défunt au cours du processus de momification.
