Note: This article contains major spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8, episode 5 'The Bells'.

Game of Thrones' latest episode hasn't exactly gone down well with many fans, so much so that there's already a petition to remake the whole season.

In case you missed it, 'The Bells' saw Daenerys Targaryen torch King's Landing with her last remaining dragon Drogon, a development that has got many viewers up in arms.

However, it's not the first bad thing many have had to say about the final season, with the preceding few episodes criticised by some for wrapping storylines up too fast and some problematic elements too.

Now the inevitable has happened – a Change.org petition has called on HBO to re-do the entire season, and has nearly reached its target of 15,000 signatures at the time of writing.

"David Benioff and DB Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (ie the books) to fall back on," it says.

"This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!"

While a lot of people were hating on 'The Bells', it hasn't pushed away Thrones viewers – in fact, it has already become the most-watched episode in the show's history.

Euron Greyjoy actor Pilou Asbæk recently responded to the negative reaction, saying: "The diversity of the fans and the passion they bring to the table is admirable, and you want to have all of it.

"You want to have the ones that go, 'This is the greatest show ever made,' and you wanna have the people that go, 'I hate this show. I've always hated it. I want the books now.'

"You cannot satisfy one billion people, it's not possible. But you want to have them commit to the show, even if they don't like it. There was a guy called PT Barnum who said, 'There's no such thing as bad press, there's only press'."

Game of Thrones season 8 airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Tune in to Digital Spy's Game of Thrones livestreams on Monday evenings, straight after each episode, on Instagram and Facebook.
