A ewe on the loose was tranquilized and captured in Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood Monday morning after evading authorities who tried to capture it multiple times.
Chicago Animal Care and Control responded to the South Side neighborhood after it received reports of a loose sheep, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.
"He was running toward me," said witness Dale Austin, who called 911. "He would answer when you called."
Inspectors arrived at the scene and made several attempts to restrain the animal but were unsuccessful as the sheep continued traveling down the 3200 block of South Hoyne, authorities said.
Eventually, inspectors were able to tranquilize the adult female sheep, which is now recovering at CACC “under the supervision of its medical team.”
“It is speculated that the sheep may have escaped during a transport from a farm,” police said in a statement. “CACC is working to transfer it to a rescue.”
CACC wrote on Facebook the sheep is "doing quite well" and "better days are ahead for this 'little' girl."
