Chrissie Hynde is preparing for the release of her first ever solo album, a record she says was inspired by power pop and an attraction to irreverence. “I think life is serious, and you should take it seriously," she recently explained. "But in rock 'n roll either have a laugh or don’t come to the party…"
For her first single, Dark Sunglasses, Hynde appears to be smirking at those who follow a life of domesticated banality, as the former Pretenders frontwoman sneers at pension plans and car insurance with the kind of reckless disregard of a woman who once reportedly tried to convince Sid Vicious to marry her.
For the single's music video, directed by Steve Glashier and premiered here, the camera takes a trip around some shabby, sun stricken streets and suburban roads, to gaze at a selection of grizzled types donning dimly lit specks, such as skaters, painters and a man 31 seconds in who appears to have stumbled out of an Avatar screening.
