Liverpool’s stand-out star? There isn’t one in this team of all the talents

Since the start of Liverpool’s extraordinary unbeaten Premier League run, a year ago today, I have been asking myself a question: who is the best player in this formidable team? Who contributes the most? Who would leave the club most exposed by exiting? And, guess what: I have been tying myself in knots trying to find a cogent answer.

You see, my eyes were first drawn to Mo Salah. After all, who could fail to be mesmerised by the quicksilver feet and versatility of this beautiful footballer? Hell, he scored 32 league goals in his first season, 22 in his second, terrifying defenders with his diminutive threat, turning them inside out, somewhat like the legendary George Best, the original “blood twister”.
