The wife of acclaimed Iranian director Jafar Panahi says his travel ban has been lifted after 14 years and that she and her husband were going to travel abroad "for a few days."
Tahereh Saeedi made the announcements in an Instagram post late on April 25. Accompanying the post was a picture of the couple arriving at an unidentified airport. It was not immediately clear when the photo was taken.
Panahi, 62, is one of Iran’s best-known filmmakers.
The Cannes film festival award-winner and director of “Taxi” and “No Bears” was arrested in July 2022, before the eruption of ongoing widespread protests against Iran’s clerical establishment, after he protested the detention of two other filmmakers.
He was temporarily released from prison in February this year after going on a hunger strike to protest the “illegal and inhumane behavior" of the Islamic Republic’s judiciary.
