Russian man who opened fire in military enlistment office sentenced to 19 years in prison
A military court in Irkutsk, Russia has sentenced 26-year-old Ruslan Zinin, who opened fire in a military enlistment office and wounded a recruiting officer, to 19 years in prison, reports Solidarity Zone.
Zinin was found guilty of charges related to terrorism and illegal possession and modification of firearms.
He is to spend the first seven years in prison before serving out the rest of his sentence in a “special regime” penal colony, the type of correctional institution with the harshest conditions in Russia.
In September 2022, days after the beginning of mobilization in the Irkutsk region, Zinin opened fire in the Ust-Ilimsk military commissariat, seriously wounding the district military commissar, Alexander Eliseyev. Zinin said he was trying to prevent his younger brother, who had received a military summons, from being drafted.
