VIRUDHUNAGAR: A mahila court in Tamil Nadu’s Srivilliputhur on Tuesday sentenced assistant professor Nirmala Devi to 10 years imprisonment for luring college girl students to offer sexual favours to senior officials.
Mahila court sessions judge T Bagavathiammal imposed a fine of Rs 2.45 lakh on Nirmala Devi.
On Monday, the court convicted Nirmala Devi while acquitting two others - V Murugan, an assistant professor at Madurai Kamaraj University, and S Karuppasamy, a research scholar -- from the case.

Nirmala Devi, who was an assistant professor at Devanga Arts College in Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district, was arrested on April 16, 2018 after an audio clip of her telephonic conversation with girl students -- in which she purportedly suggested them to do ‘favours’ for senior officials -- went viral in social media.
The case was later transferred to the CB-CID. After completing the investigation, the CB-CID filed a chargesheet in the case.
