Monty Python have predicted a potentially gloomy end for the England Team with the release of their unofficial 2014 World Cup anthem, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

The comedy troupe, who have 10 forthcoming live dates at the London O2 arena in July, have re-recorded the 1979 track with a new verse, anticipating England's failure in Brazil. The lyrics read: "When you're in The World Cup, And all your hopes are up, And everybody wants their team to win. Then they go and let you down, And come slinking back to town, It's time for this daft song to begin."

Eric Idle wrote the song for the ending of Python film Life of Brian, but it has since become a popular stadium singalong.

The unofficial World Cup anthem could prove more popular than the official World Cup 2014 song, written by Gary Barlow and featuring vocals from the Take That singer and 20 other celebrities, which was dropped last week. The FA stated that it had no plans for the track, called Greatest Day, to be released as an official single. It went on sale in March.

The new version of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life is available on the iTunes store now and is the first of a few forthcoming Python recordings to be released before the Monty Python album is reissued at the end of the month. The group will also be releasing a box set of all of their albums on June 30, called Monty Python's Total Rubbish: The Complete Collection.

Monty Python members, including Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin, have admitted that the new material from the group, namely the live reunion, has been motivated by financial incentives.
